During the Industrial Revolution in the 18th-19th centuries the Europe & America started transforming from rural to urban and agrarian to industrial. Humans started using machines and we started mass producing. In the 1960’s (20th century) the world started to notice that industrialization, mass production and urbanization had impacted our environment. By end of the 20th century, ISO created a standard that laid requirements that would help any organization effectively manage their environmental impact.
ISO 14001 and the ISO 14000 family was developed to help businesses efficiently manage how they use resources and reduce waste in order to have impact the environment minimally. An effective EMS (Environmental Management system) would focus on meeting any local, regional or national environmental regulations by having the whole organization working towards a common environmental goal. For example, Factor Quality’s environmental goal is to reduce waste of paper. Therefore we recycle more than 90% of the paper that is used here, try not to print as much as we used and use 100% recycled paper for printing. It might not be feasible in other settings, but it makes sense to our business.
Being effective when managing an EMS is key to continue caring for our World so that the next generation can continue to enjoy it. Factor Quality is ready to help you set, reset or maintain your EMS – ISO14001 – certification.
